Internet advertising revenue 'set to increase'
Revenue generated by internet advertising in the UK is to increase over the next four years, a new report has suggested.
According to research by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), revenue produced in the entertainment and media market will rise to $98 billion (£60 billion) by 2013, figures that may interest those using the web for lead generation.
However, this will come only after a fall in earnings in the short-term, the firm found, with the figure expected to have declined from $92 billion in 2008 to $85 billion by 2010.
"We anticipate fundamental structural change in many of the business models across E&M sectors to happen imminently," head of entertainment and media at the Big Four company Phil Stokes explained, adding that internet advertising is one of five segments that will have grown in size between 2008 and 2013.
The study also concluded that access to the internet in the UK will increase at a compound annual growth rate of seven per cent between over the next four years, due to the fact that many broadband providers are investing in their infrastructure to provide speed and access improvements.
Research from PwC and the Internet Advertising Bureau recently revealed that online search marketing grew 26 per cent year-on-year during 2008.
