UK 'offers opportunities during recession'
Companies operating in the UK can generate opportunities during the recession, it has been suggested.
According to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), firms that are well managed will be ideally-placed to perform well during the present economic climate, something that may be of interest to businesses operating in the IT sector that are looking to expand their market entry by setting up offices in the UK.
"Recession provides opportunities as well as risks," chief economist at the BCC David Kern noted.
"The businesses that are surviving in a recession require good management," he added, noting that the current financial situation will be a "great test" for companies.
However, Mr Kern also noted companies will need to exercise caution and urged them to ensure they hold on to adequate funds during the ongoing period of uncertainty.
His comments follow the recent publication of figures from BDO Stoy Hayward, which revealed an increase in short and medium-term business confidence among firms operating in the UK.
This was the first simultaneous rise for over a year, the firm said, adding that the climb is an indication that firms are beginning to adapt to the changing market conditions brought on by the recession.
