UK business start ups 'look strong despite recession'

Despite the recession the number of businesses starting up in the UK is looking healthy and resilient, it has been claimed.

According to the Telegraph, there has been no significant decline in the number of people wishing to start up their business venture in the New Year.

An industry analysis from the British Bankers' Association also discovered that in the three months leading up to September, the number of new firms starting in the UK fell by four per cent, compared to an expected drop of between ten and 15 per cent.

Dr Richard Roberts, Barclays' head of research into small and medium-sized businesses, said: "So far we have not seen the contraction in start-up activity we would expect given the scale of economic slowdown."
