Outsourcing 'can improve' competitiveness

Companies can find that their business practices are enhanced if they turn to outsourcing, as it can help control costs and maintain positions in a competitive market, as well as assisting staff progression up the career ladder.

This is the opinion of Daniel Marovitz, IT chief with Deutsche Bank, who told website Computing that, although his company is well-situated to outsource employees across Germany, "if we want to be the best and brightest" it is essential to tap the resources on offer worldwide.

"It is important to stay competitive and manage cost in the short term, but for the long term we want to build relationships with universities," he said, adding that employees can also develop quickly as they can engage in supervisory roles for outsourced groups early on.

Furthermore, Mr Marovitz claimed that opportunities for newer members of staff can exist alongside outsourcing, with in-house workers contributing to "higher-level tasks" and with "sexier technology", as the more arduous duties are handled elsewhere.

Despite the benefits of outsourcing, however, he went on to say that there is no substitute for in-person meetings and managers must visit their offshore groups occasionally.

Earlier this month, Jack Morkel stated that India-based companies are proving to be a popular choice for businesses wanting to outsource their operations.
